We are proud to announce that ExperienZ has been selected to take part in a new EU-supported programme dedicated to sustainable tourism and the discovery of the Olympus region. The scope of the program focuses on connecting visitors with Olympian nature, encouraging them to choose more sustainable options and support year-round tourism opportunities.

At the heart of our participation journey is something small, essential and deeply connected to the Greek landscape: the honeybee! But before we introduce the program outline and specific activities, it is important to mention Mount Olympus and its unique characteristics.

Olympus: A landscape of exceptional value

Except for being known as the House of Gods in ancient Greek mythology, Olympus has much more to offer both as a natural and a cultural hotspot. It is the highest mountain in Greece while being really close to the sea, offering an extraordinary variation in landscape and vegetation as it consists of forests, alpine areas, gorges and diverse habitats. This exceptional biodiversity combined with mythology and archaeological remains in the area have led to Olympus being a rather famous winter destination for mountain trekking enthusiasts and nature lovers.

All the above mentioned, have led to intense discussions about the need for a more official protection scheme and further promotion of Mount Olympus as a valuable destination throughout the year. In July 2026, the wider area of Mount Olympus was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a mixed property, recognising both its cultural and natural significance, bringing this initial thought into action. This recognition reminds us that Olympus is not simply a destination to visit. It is a landscape to understand, experience and protect.

How we participate in the EU program (DETOUR)

DETOUR (Development of resilient tourism ecosystems along Mediterranean walking routes) is a program designed to bring more guests and curious travelers to the wider area of Olympus along other chosen EU destinations in order to ensure recurring guest flows and wider economic support to the area. As Experienz we will have the opportunity to create and provide experiential activities based on apitourism routes and combine online and live sessions on biodiversity conservation, hands-on workshops and physical activity focused around the bee and its significant role in being the ecosystem’s primary pollinator. Our so called “Nectar Trail” project is going to consist of a physical and digital Heritage Trail accompanied by other digital tools showcasing the flora of Olympus and the pollination route of bees.

This is only the beginning of a series of calls, mountain meetings, digital content and product development, so stay tuned for further updates on our collaborating team, project progress and more. As the new routes and experiences take shape, we look forward to welcoming visitors to discover Olympus through new experiences, local stories and a deeper connection with its landscape. Perhaps the best way to discover Olympus is not to look at it from a distance, but to follow the connections that make it alive. Follow the nectar trails, follow the people.
